Summersville, WV

July 30: We decided to go over to WV and visit Ronnie's friend Scott and his family. Another 8 hour drive, but the scenery is beautiful. And the further into WV we got the cooler the temperature. AHHHHH. We got to test the Shuttle Discovery and her garage (the trailer) in the mountains. Stupid GPS. There is no section telling it we are in a 36ft RV with a 16ft enclosed trailer loaded with 2 motorcycles. We got on this road I'm still not convinced a bicycle could navigate. But we made it. Ronnie did a great job getting us there.

The campground was on a mountain overlooking a beautiful lake. But again not a KOA. NO SEWAGE. And not much to do.

Ronnie spent a lot of time with his buddy playing music together. Apparently they had their first band together. "Electric Peanut Butter" :) Bailey and I made the most of our time hanging out together.

Scott and his wife Nikki invited us to dinner and some family was there. So the boys took advantage of the time and had an impromptu jam session.

The mountains are gorgeous here and the weather was more than you could ask for.

Still in Williamsburg...

July 27: So I know everyone is wondering if everyday is a great big, fun, exciting adventure. Well not always. So here is the tale of our first meltdown.

We woke early and got all the things we needed to head to River Country USA . I had never been to water park, but my sister goes a lot so she had great advise on things to bring and how to enjoy the park. The day started out great. We got in the park changed into our swim suits and headed to the first slide we saw. It was lots of fun. We got on a couple more slides and went to chill in the wave pool. FUN!! We decided to grab a bite to eat. ( $52.00, Crap, I forgot the part about "pack a lunch" Jen ) We went back to the wave pool and should have stayed there. This is when the day took a turn. We were standing in line for a slide that was rather high, long, and completely in the dark. Ronnie & I were excited, but Bailey was getting nervous and saying he didn't want to go. The line was very long and we were all hot so lets just say it went down hill from there. It is very hard to go to amusement parks with B cause he doesn't like to ride. So anyway that was the end of the day at the park. We went home ( RV ) mad, hot, and tiered. So this was our first meltdown on the trip. I am sure we will have more, but the goal is to learn. Right?

Catch Up....NC

July 26: I'm sorry I have been very lazy with the blog. I have no excuses.

We spent 3 days in Cape Hatteras, NC. It was very beautiful, but soooo windy. The RV rocked so much I thought we were at sea. At least my stomach felt that way. Going to the beach was difficult also. It felt like we were getting a sand blasting. Anyway, we spent some time on the beach. Bailey got a skim board and got pretty good. Ronnie got some great wind for his kite. And I got a great tan.

We left Cape Hatteras a day earlier than planed and headed north to Virginia.

More Williamsburg......

July 27: We decided not to go to Bush Gardens, because one of the lessons I have learn as a parent is to pick your battles. So we mostly hung out at the campsite and went to the pool.

We had gone to a resturant earlier in the week and saw that they were gonna have karaoke on Friday. So dressed up ( jeans and our new Harley shirts ) and went to have some fun. We took CrazyHorse with us, as I'm sure he was missing karaoke. Me & Ronnie sang a couple of songs and we all had a great time.

Williamsburg, VA

July 19: We had long drive to Williamsburg, VA. This is my kind of place. I just love all the history here. We stayed at a KOA again. The KOA's are a little more expensive, but they seem to suit us better. Lots of things for Bailey to do and more modern convinces. Like sewage.

It is scorching hot here with temps in the 100's. Kinda like being home. We tried to make the best of it. We went to Colonial Wmb, which is a reconstructed town of the early settlers. We watched a gunsmith make musketts, a cobbler make shoes, and a young George Washington address his troops before battle. Bailey play with some toys of the time. We toured a church and listened to a colonist play a flute.

North Carolina

July 18: Woke up around 5:00 am. Lots to do to break down the Shuttle Discovery and get on the road by 7:00, heading to Cape Hatteras, NC. Our trip today was about 9 hours. Stupid GPS dosn't know this is the 21st century and we have interstates, not just back roads that are in the middle of nowhere and very narrow for an RV. I drove for a couple of hours while Ronnie and Bailey slept. At least I didn't come up on any construction. It was kinda scary going over the long narrow bridges that lead out to the islands, but Ronnie navigated them just fine. Oh well made here by dinner time. We ordered pizza.

After dinner we put on our suits and headed to the beach. The wind here is so gusty we cannot put out our awning and the whole RV is rocking. It is beautiful though, very coastal.
Will write more tomorrow.

Mt Pleasant, NC USS Yorktown

July 17: We went to see the USS Yorktown today. I have forgotten how big those Navy ships are. We also toured the submarine USS Clamagore. I have forgotten how small those subs are. Bailey loved it. It was very interesting and brought back lots of memories of our Navy Days.

We came home went to the pool for a while and just chilled out. Had dinner and going to bed early. Long drive tomorrow to North Carolina.

Charleston, SC ( Mt Pleasant)

July 16: I guess I need to catch up a little. I have been a little lazy with the blog.

We had a great time in Savannah despite the rain, lots of rain. When we came home from Tybee Island we had to ride through so much water our pipes were gurgling. Well, my mom always said "only sugar melts".

We broke down camp on Wed morning and headed north to South Carolina. It was only about a 2 1/2 hour drive to the KOA in Mt Pleasant where we had made reservations. I really like the KOA's. There are probably cheaper campgrounds out there, but we know what to expect here. Nice and clean and lots of kids for Bailey to meet.

We pulled in around 1:00 and proceeded with the set up of the Shuttle Discovery. About an hours worth of work.

Ronnie's "best good friend" Jerry was driving down from PA to spend some time with us so we spent the rest of the afternoon just relaxing and waiting on him to arrive. We had dinner (BBQ chicken and mac & cheese) and took Bay to the pool. Jerry arrived safely.

Thursday morning we got up and checked the weather. 40% chance of rain and hot. AGAIN????
Aren't we going north? Oh well it is what it is. Let's ride. We drove into Charleston about 15 miles of traffic and this hugenormous bridge. OMG!!! It was so tall and windy, I thought I saw Canada from up there. As we were approaching the bridge I suggested we stop at the K-mart, eat at McDonalds, I would take some pictures and call it vacation. "I don't won't to go over that thing!" LOL Made it over just fine. Actually it was pretty cool. I wish we could have spent more time in Charleston, but it was hot. We had lunch, went to the Harley shop for t-shirts and walked around a bit. Made it back over the bridge and Ronnie and Jerry stopped at the Walmart for stuff for dinner. Oh, and beer. Bailey and I rode on to the RV by ourselves. First time alone on the bike. Good thing .... it was only .3 miles up the road. LOL. We all went for a dip in the pool when we got home and started dinner. MMMMM steak and shrimp. After dinner we went up the road to work off dinner with a "friendly" game of miniature golf. I WON, HA HA HA HA!!!!!!! No crying boys.

Today we may go do some more sightseeing. I'll write again soon.

Georgia.....Savannah

July 11: Well our first day (Sat) on the journey was really uneventful. We were only 28 minutes late leaving the Egnew compound and set out on our road of discovery. We arrived at the KOA around 4:30 and proceeded with the hook up of the "Shuttle Discovery". That is what the RV is now named as it is a Fleetwood Discovery. (He-He) While Ronnie grilled hamburgers Bailey and I played a game of Skip-Bo, which he won. Ronnie went outside with a couple of beers and was trying to get his party on at the KOA (It's a party at the KOA....sang to Miley Cyrus Party in the USA). A large rv pulled in next to us and the way they had to park was way close to us, so he had to drop the awning and decided to come in for the night. Oh well....maybe tonight.

So today we got up and decided to go in to Savannah. EKKKS...20 miles, on the Interstate? Oh well I wanted to go to town, so I put on my finest riding gear (Jeans and a t-shirt) and off we went. I didn't even get to go a mile before we jump on and I was cruisin at 65 mph. WOW!!! I was so proud of myself and so was Bailey and Ronnie.

We had a great lunch and went on the trolly tour. We went to the Harley store and got t-shirts. It was very hot and from now on I will take more suitable tourist clothes to change into. Jeans and boots are very hot and uncomfortable to walk around in .

We decided to head back to the rv before it got dark and about 5 miles down I-16 the bottom fell out of the sky. Crash course in riding in the rain. We drove to the next exit and pulled into a gas station and waited out the storm. Bailey wanted to ride with me so crash course in riding with a passenger. All was good and we made it HOME (rv) safe and sound.

Notice the stuffed animal......that's CrazyHorse from the bar. You will see him in lots of photos.

Change of plans...again

July 9: You know what I love about the lifestyle we have chosen. We are not confined to any schedule but our own. LOVE IT!!!

We have decided not to start in Atlanta. We are going to Savannah instead. Yeah I love Savannah!

Yesterday and today have been spent getting last minute preparations ready for departure bright and early Sat morning. Ronnie says 7 am, I'm guessing 9 am maybe 10 am. I'll let you know what time we leave. (ha ha) I am sooooo ready to get started.

Still a little nervous about the trike but I ain't no chicken. So I am ready for the challenge and this incredible life journey.

My hope is that we ALL find the good in this country, it's people, each other and especially ourselves.

Happy Trails!

Riding While We Wait....

July 7: Today was kinda a lazy day. But we did take the bikes (trike) out for a short ride. Rode up to the bar. Had a soda and took the long way home.(RV)

After dinner we rode up to see Deb & Michael.I will miss you guys a bunch.

YEEAAAAHHHH

July 7: Went yesterday and took that STUPID motorcycle test again. PASSED....yeah me!!!!
I guess I am officially a Biker Chic. Ha-Ha.

Had a great farewell dinner with my goodtime girls. Gonna miss them lots.

We have (hopefully) one more minor repair to do on the RV and we can hit the road.

On Hold.......

July 6: I haven't posted anything cause we are just kinda in limbo right now. Had to wait for a part to come in to fix this thingy that makes this other thingy work on the thingy for the RV.

I did close on the house last Wednesday. I hope the family that bought it makes as many great memories as we did there. It was bitter sweet. Yes I cried.

A Harley converted to a trike is no good without a licensed driver. I went Friday and took my motorcycle test and didn't do to well. (YES I READ THE BOOK) I am gonna go try again today. We can't leave until I get it. Wish me luck again.

So we are bored and anxious to get going, but we have managed to keep our feeling in check.
